building a foundation for life after foster care

The mission of First Place for Youth is to help foster youth build the skills they need to make a successful transition to self-sufficiency and responsible adulthood. Read about this issue and the solution.

Our Youth

Youth in First Place's Community Resource Center worked together to create a mural that reflects their experience transitioning out of foster care. Learn more about the team mural project here.

Every year in California, about 5,000 foster children turn 18 and need support as they transition into adults. First Place believes that all children deserve a chance to become self-sufficient, contributing members of the community. First Place programs help current and former foster youth develop the skills to become self-sufficient. Click here to watch a video about First Place.
